"I had a friend who was lesbian and she told me about her girlfriend who had been physically abusing her on campus. Her girlfriend made it so that the only time they weren’t together was in class. When she had shown me the results of her beatings and told me the mental/psychological gymnastics she was experiencing I helped her come up with solutions. But I remember thinking when we were filing out paperwork: I had never thought of violence against women through that lens. It was eye-opening and I think although it may or may not be as common when it does happen it can feel terrifying and hopeless given the way it is not addressed in our society as much as violence against women in heterosexual relationships.
