It’s a Womens' Job

"I was home once and my mom yelled at me for not washing the dishes. I told her that I hadn’t eaten all day or even left my room. We both knew that my step-dad left the dishes. I asked her why she was yelling at me for something I did not do or could not have even known about. She said “you’re a young woman so you or your sister need to wash the dishes especially when I’m not home. You think the man of the house should be washing dishes?” I was shooketh! But, was I really? I know these cultural expectations for women are so common amongst so many cultures, not just my own."
