“I was raped at 10 years old and that’s something that I will never stop thinking about. I come from South Africa and I grew up in a very patriarchal area that when I told my own parents about this they told me to keep quiet and act like nothing ever happened. I have never felt so alone and scared in my life like I did in that moment. This affected my mental health and I will constantly live with this fear and discomfort. I hope no girl gets to live in the fear I had and should know that there are people ready to help and to talk about these issues with you.”
